Where to Put Your New Freestanding Tub

Congratulations! You have decided to finally update your bathroom and you are going to install a freestanding bathtub. Although one of the most common questions we receive is; where should I install my new freestanding bathtub? Freestanding bathtubs are much different than your traditional built-in bathtub. Freestanding tubs are normally not installed against a wall. Although the first thing any bathroom designer should consider is where they will put the shower. Once you have the location of your shower picked out, then you will have a better idea of where you should install your freestanding bathtub. Another thing to consider is a view. If you have a relatively large window in your bathroom, placing your bathtub near it will provide some added relaxation while soaking.

Where is your shower?

Most people will install their showers against a corner in their bathrooms. Given this, a good location for your freestanding bathtub might be in close proximity to the shower while being installed in the middle of your bathroom. If space allows it, some homeowners are even placing their bathtubs inside enclosed showers. Take note that it is important to leave enough space between the wall and your freestanding bathtub so you can be able to enjoy the view of your bathtub from as many angles as possible.

It is recommended to allow enough space between the walls and your shower glass for you to be able to easily fit a mop or broom in the empty spaces. If not, cleaning around your tub will be difficult.

Where is your toilet?

You will also need to consider where you are going to install your toilet before you choose a spot for your freestanding bathtub. You do not want to install your bathtub next to your toilet. Aside from the visual aspect, it’s also not very sanitary.

If you are finding it difficult to find a space for your freestanding bathtub away from your toilet, then you should consider building walls around your toilet. This will give your bathroom more wall space where you can hand things like pictures, but most importantly it will give you a boundary between your bathtub and your toilet.
